Hosea James Givan II

Chair of the Board of Directors and Founder of I Love Our Youth, Inc. (1993) and Founder and Executive Director of The National Give Back for Kids Campaign, Inc. (2009); Hosea is a graduate of Drake University (Des Moines, Iowa) where he received a Bachelor of Arts, Majoring in Public Administration, and Long Island University (Greenvale, NY) where he received a Masters degree in Education. He also holds a Masters in Urban Ministry from Alliance Theological Seminary (Nyack, NY).

In addition to his “part-time” duties as Executive Director of the National Give Back for Kids Campaign, Inc, professionally, Hosea is also currently the Dean/Guidance Counselor at Public School 463 in Bronx, New York. He previously taught special education and is a NYS certified guidance counselor. He served as the Executive Director of a Legislative Caucus in Albany, NY, Co-Commissioner and Co-Founder of the Nike Swoosh Basketball (The largest summer basketball tournament in the country.) and was a Spokesperson for Chase Manhattan Bank’s Community Development Corporation. He was also an adjunct professor at the College of New Rochelle.

Hosea has received numerous awards, among them: The Association of College Unions International Leadership Award, Outstanding Man of America, The Negro College Fund’s Fredrick D. Patterson Award for Political Leadership, received awards for Community Service from Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. (NYS Conference), Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Epsilon Chapter’s Citizen Of The Year Award, Zeta Phi Beta’s Educator of the Year, NY Liberty Service Award, The NY Knicks Community Service Award and U.S. Congressional Achievement Award (Hon. Hosea has appeared on various television and radio programs and his experiences have been widely captured in print media. In 2001, Hosea’s life story was a part of a National exhibit “The Long Walk of Freedom,” honoring Youth Activists in NYC.

He is a Life-Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and a Prince Hall Mason. He is a currently board of director for Sports Explorers, Inc. based in Durham, NC. He has also served for or been a member in the following organizations: Kiwanis Linden-Brownsville Chapter (Brooklyn, NY), Wesley Foundation Board of Director (Des Moines, Iowa), NAACP, Queens County Martin Luther King Commission, Urban League, York College President Advisory Board, The Queens Black-Jewish People Project, The Black-Korean Mediation Project, 100 Black Men and currently coaches a nationally ranked AAU basketball team. Hosea was born in Chicago IL and raised in Hollis Queens, NY and currently is married to the former, Rachel Cheeks and they have a daughter, Rebekah
